Running Parsec On A Headless Gaming PC Or A Server

OVERCOMING DISPLAY ERRORS

Microsoft and your GPU don't like it when you try to capture video on a headless servers. You can buy this HDMI dongle to mimic a display.

FIXING THE MISSING MOUSE

Windows explicitly removes the mouse when one is not present. Parsec faithfully reproduces the hidden mouse cursor based on this. If you would like to keep a mouse cursor visible at all times, you can follow the steps outlined in this article

  1. Press the Windows + I keyboard shortcut to open the Settings app.
  2. Click Ease of Access.
    ease-of-access
  3. Select Mouse in the left side. Under the Mouse keys section, click the toggle corresponding to the “Use numeric keypad to move mouse around the screen” option to On.

  4. You can now easily control the mouse cursor with the numeric keypad.

This will force Windows to believe that a mouse is always connected. If your on a headless server, make sure all other remote desktop tools are closed. These other tools can sometimes interrupt the mouse input/display. For Paperspace, this includes their browser application.
