My Paperspace Machine Reports Its Location As California (CA)

If you run a Speedtest.net or IP look up on your Paperspace cloud computer you will find that it's location is being detected as California, regardless of what location you selected when launching your cloud computer

Don't worry! This is normal and doesn't mean you picked the wrong machine location!

How to double check your server is in the location you selected

Things to watch out for if you're getting multiplayer lag or slow download speeds

Games:

Some games automatically detect the multiplayer server based on IP Geolocation information, rather than PING (latency).  This means you may need to manually alter the multiplayer server location option in game.

Steam Content Servers:

Steam uses content servers that are located all over the world. Steam attempts to select the best content server based on your location.  If Steam downloads are going slower than expected, please double check your current download region:

  1. Start Steam
  2. Go to Steam > Settings > Downloads tab
  3. Under Download region, select the region that you are in or that is closest to you.
  4. You can also try various regions near your location to see if a better connection is available.

Speedtest.net

Manually select a Speedtest server, and search for the region (Amsterdam or New York) where the Paperspace server is actually located

The only reason I checked Speedtest is because I was getting lag and I changed the above settings and it didn't help.

If changing the above settings didn't help, you should check out this article on steps to resolving lag on cloud machines

Oh...I accidentally did pick the wrong location, can I change it?

Unfortunately you can't currently change the server location between regions. You will need to delete that machine, and create another - Don't worry, your existing balance will transfer to the new machine!
